I’m one of those people who absolutely lives for the New Year’s season. ✨ There’s just something about the fresh start that gets me hyped—it’s an opportunity to dream, to plan, and start new habits with a clean slate.
I approach it with so much enthusiasm that I naturally go around asking people: What’s the plan for this year? What are you working on? What’s got you excited? You know, just trying to spread a little positive energy.
But here’s what surprised me this time around: A lot of people responded with, “Oh, I’m just going with the flow,” or “No plans, I’m taking it one day at a time.” And while I totally get it—we live in a fast-paced, hustle culture that often leaves us drained—I can’t help but feel like this approach is quite risky.
Here’s the thing about “going with the flow”
The flow isn’t going anywhere, my sister. Adulting has taught me one cold, hard truth: if you don’t intentionally decide where you’re headed, you’re not going to magically drift to a beautiful destination. 🛶 Instead, you’ll probably find yourself stuck in the same place, feeling unfulfilled and wondering where the year went.
Think about it—successful people in any area of life don’t go with the flow. Whether it’s their career, finances, fitness, parenting, or even relationships. They sit down, envision what they want, and then make a plan to get there by creating achievable steps and working toward their goals bit by bit.
If you’re hoping for a thriving year, or at least just a really good year for yourself, you need to do the same. 💪🏾
Why planning matters
When you take the time to set goals, no matter how small, you give your life direction and permission to design the life you want. 📝✨ You’re basically saying, “This is what I want, and I’m going after it.” Yeah sure, things may not always go according to plan—life has a way of throwing us curveballs—but having a plan means you’re at least moving forward. Without one, you’re just standing still, bruh.
And here’s the sad part: when you “go with the flow,” you’re actually planning to go nowhere. Think of it as an unspoken agreement with life that says, “I’m okay with whatever happens.” BUT, are you REALLY? 🤔 Is that how you want to approach your dreams, your relationships, your career, your health, or your finances?
Start small
I’m not saying you have to set huge, overwhelming goals. I’m not here to tell you to become the best version of yourself or go out and shine brighter than everyone else. I’m just saying, become “mwene gomovie” in your own life, and start somewhere. 🎬
• You wanna get into a relationship? Commit to going on a blind date every month. ❤️
• Wanna improve your health? Decide to take a 20-minute walk three times a week. 🚶🏾♀️
• Craving more connection? Host a weekly family night. 🏠💖
• Want to save money? Start by setting a small savings goal. 💰
It doesn’t have to be big—it just has to be intentional. You’ll be amazed at what happens when you approach life with purpose. That’s what we call intentional living.
Let’s do it together…
One of the rules I’ve lived by for over 10 years now is this: Every year will be better than the previous year. 🔥 I believe it, and I live like it. That philosophy has never failed me. In so many areas of my life, every single year has been better than the last. But here’s the thing—it doesn’t just happen by chance. This philosophy forces me to be proactive in making sure it’s fulfilled. I can’t just sit back and wait for the year to get better. Because, how now? I sit down and ask myself, What areas of my life can I improve? And how am I going to do that? Then, I go and do it.
This year, I want to take it a step further and hold your hand as we take on 2025 together, okay? That’s why I’m hosting a Planning for 2025 Brunch with just 10 amazing ladies on 08 February 2025. 🥂✨ Think of it as a vision board session, but much more—it’s intentional planning, real conversations, and setting actionable goals to make this year your best one yet. I want you to succeed, thrive, and end the year knowing you gave it your all.
If this sounds like something you need, send me a message or email to secure your spot—it’s first come, first served. 💌 I’ll be sharing more details soon, but trust me, it’s going to be impactful, encouraging, and completely worth it. 💯
Final Thoughts
Yes, life is unpredictable, and no plan is guaranteed. But here’s the thing also: when you set expectations, you’re sending out a message into the universe that says, “This is what I’m hoping for.” ✨ If you expect nothing, guess what? That’s exactly what you’re gonna get; a big ol’lump of nothing. Your expectation is God’s invitation to move mightily in your life. You’ve gotta give God something to work with, ma’am.
So do me (and yourself) a favour: don’t “go with the flow.” Instead, take a moment to ask yourself, “What do I want this year to look like? What steps can I take to make it happen?” Then write it down. Commit to it. 🖊️ And trust that even if things don’t go perfectly, you’ll still be further ahead than if you had done nothing.
Take 30 minutes today—yes, today—and write down 3 things you want to work on this year. Then, break each one into a small, actionable step. Your 2026 self will thank you.
Can’t wait for you to tell me all about it at the Planning for 2025 Brunch. 🙂
Let me know in the comments what you’re looking forward to in 2025 so that your excitement can inspire us!
With love and purpose,
